Thank you to everyone for making the 2010 ASBHM Conference fun, interactive and informative. Over 120 delegates (from 5 countries) attended the three days of the conference and we received positive feedback on all of our keynote, workshop, paper and poster sessions.

Title: Translating Research to Practice, and Back

What will participants learn?  
Participants in this workshop will gain a deeper understanding of differences among major research and theoretical traditions in concepts relating to the gaps between research and policy or practice, such as knowledge utilization, diffusion, transfer, implementation, and translation.

Who would benefit from the workshop?
Those at the interface of research or evaluation and community or clinical practice, or between research and policy or program planning; those concerned with the gap between science and practice; those concerned with the misalignment of much published research and the information needs of practitioners.


Title: Collaborative approaches to research in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health

Conference Dinner

The conference dinner is a fantastic opportunity to mingle with other delegates and our Keynote presenters in a casual environment. The dinner will be held at the Boardwalk Bar + Bistro on Thursday 11 th Feb. The dinner costs AU $50 per person and is open to both conference delegates and non-attendees travelling with delegates.

Your dinner will be a three course delight served outside under the stars right on the Brisbane River overlooking the magnificent Storey Bridge (beautiful when lit up at night).We will be gathering in the Novotel Hotel foyer at 6:40pm for a quick 10-15min stroll down to the river, or you can meet us down there for a 7pm start. The restaurant is located at 71 Eagle Street , Boardwalk Level, Riparian Plaza, Brisbane.

If you would like to join in the fun of the conference dinner, make sure you tick the box on your registration form and add the additional costs to your overall registration fee. Please also ensure that you notify us of any dietary requirements you may have.

Welcome and Farewell Receptions

There will be a Welcome Reception on the Wednesday evening (directly following the last paper session for the day) and a Farewell Reception on the Friday evening (directly following the prize announcements). These social opportunities offer a fantastic opportunity to mingle with delegates, potential collaborators and Keynote presenters.

Both of these receptions will provide drinks and finger food and are included in the price of the conference registration – so make the most of this opportunity and join in the fun.

Four awards will be nominated this year:

  • Early Career Award:
    • For best oral presentation for current ASBHM members whose degree was awarded within the previous five years as at the conference date
  • Student Award:
    • Best oral presentation for postgraduate (Masters, Doctorate or PhD) ASBHM student members
  • Poster Awards:
    • Best Overall Poster and
    • Best Student Poster (Masters, Doctorate or PhD) ASBHM student members
