Keynote Speakers
We have confirmed keynote presentations from internationally renowned researchers
- Professor Charles Abraham (University of Sussex, UK)
Professor Abraham is a social and health psychologist. His research focuses on identifying modifiable psychological antecedents of action and designing and testing interventions to change behaviour. He was the founding chair of the Division of Health Psychology and is a past co-editor of Psychology & Health. He has acted as a research consultant in the UK Department of Health and was also involved in the development of the UK NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) guidance on behaviour change practice.
- Professor Chris Cunningham (Massey University, NZ)
Professor Cunningham, of Ngati Toa and Ngati Raukawa, is Professor of Maori Health & Director of the Research Centre for Maori Health & Development at Massey University's Wellington and Manawatu Campuses. He serves on a number of committees concerned with Maori health and research and leads several large research projects investigating aspects of Maori health, and Maori involvement in health care. He has recently been a prominent public advocate for Maori oriented approaches to health promotion in housing and health behaviours such as exercise and smoking.
- Professor Phyllis Butow (University of Sydney, Australia)
Professor Butow has a Chair in Psychology, and is a Director of the Medical Psychology Research Unit, and the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre, University of Sydney. Over the past 20 years Professor Butow has established herself at the forefront of psych-oncology research, she has a distinguished reputation as one of the leading international experts on the topic of doctor patient communication. Her work is strongly featured in Psychosocial Clinical Practice Guidelines (both for generic and breast cancer) produced by NBCC and endorsed by the NHMRC.
